Second Anniversary of CACG

Sorry about the long gap between posts. All is well, just been working a lot and have not stopped to write here.

It has now been two years since the Center Avenue Community Garden began its evolution from a vacant lot owned by the First Baptist Church of Pacheco. This is a view of the site in June 2010.

The first tangible sign that something was about to happen appeared on June 29th 2010 when a load of tree chips was delivered.

I wonder if anyone remembers (or noticed) our little cardboard sign on July 5th 2010?

And then something auspicious and significant happened that launched this scraped field onto a charted course of Permaculture activity. A day to initiate the community into our proposed endeavour.

Our First official Work Day July 24th 2010

Here are some photos from that hot afternoon 2 years ago. I think it is easy to see how much progress we have made. Thanks go to so many people.

Building the very first raised bed with Eucalyptus logs.
We placed half inch galvanized wire mesh on the bottom to deter gophers. Then cardboard to block weeds. Next manure. Topped with soil.

The area where the raised beds are now situated.

Teresa and David at the end of the afternoon. Tired but happy!

More on the current state of the Center Avenue Community Garden very soon.

Many thanks to all who have given their time, money, energy and support to this community building project.

  1. Wow! I've been so focused on downtown Martinez that your community garden has completely gone under the radar. How cool to know this is part of the fabric of our city. I see I've got to make a short trek up the hill. Great job!
